Mussawarat, together with Meroe and Naga, is historically known as the Island of Meroe, of the ancient kingdom of Kush. Mussawarat es Sufra, which dates back to the Meroitic period (3rd century B.C.) also called the “Great Enclosure”, is a large building complex where you can still admire the remains of the walls, columns, sculptures in the shape of elephants. In this area, in the middle of the desert, there is a small school that we decided to support through our projects by donating cement, bricks, building material (2016) but also doors and windows (2018).
